Continued lessons from the Public Animas Ceremony: An Invitation to Passion.
If The Vision is true, it will find the right people. Celebrate them.
With great regularity I come across fundraisers, auctions, art shows, etc. featuring varied artworks where there is no mention of the artist contributor as a person. A name, yes. Maybe it is the animist in me, but when I experience art, it usually makes me want to know more about the artist. I think the humans behind the art should be celebrated as much as their work. So, in an effort to do so, we created laminated biographies to accompany each of the bowls that were created for this ceremony. Since the bowls were auctioned off as part of the don't-let-your-ceremony-bankrupt-you strategy, each person who took home a bowl also took home something to help them "know" the artist better. It's all about relationship.
For the next few entries, I will be including the biographies of our artists in an effort to further celebrate them & express our gratitude. Also included are the statements they provided (if provided) about their piece for the Animas Ceremony: An Invitation to Passion.

Alica Wolter-Hausser is experienced in many mediums and artistic forums. Her passion for art began at a very young age, and throughout her life has striven to educate and better her ability to fulfill her artistic dreams. Alica’s most fulfilling and greatest accomplishment in her field is her ability to assist other artists in their growth, and strengthening their abilities.
Alica has gained a deep connection with the earth and a unique perspective of nature from experiences with her childhood companions of squirrels and jays playing in the forest of CA to adventures with her bush pilot father in the villages around Nome and Fairbanks, AK. This has enhanced both her academic and spiritual education. Beginning with Wiccan studies in her teen years, Alica soaked up everything she could, incorporating Native American Shamanism and Taoist teachings, continuing into Druidry. After working on BFA in Printmaking at USU, she moved back to Alaska.
Celtic inspired piece by Alica Wolter-Hausser. |
Alica finds herself called to all kinds of artwork, but much of
her work reflects Celtic and Druidic influences as well as her lifelong love of horses. Alica works in many mediums, describing herself as having "artist ADD." At present, she is concentrating on watercolors and printmaking. She considers herself something of a Visual Bard -- her admirers do too.

About this Piece:
What Language Do You Understand?
Communication with words is not always the best way. I speak through my art. Some times, the message is what I intended and other times it is what the observer needs to hear. I want to capture that fleeting moment in time, share the beauty that I see just under the surface.
Favorite pieces of mine tell a story. The story may be different for each viewer, similar to when we read or hear a tale the images conjured in our minds are different. I don't wish to impose my interpretation, just share a moment or idea.
For the past year or so we have been dancing together. This is what I have been experiencing and see us expressing. I may not be as fluent with the language of dance, but I can speak other languages.
