This page is a work in progress. In all likelihood it will see many incarnations.
For today, this is my truth with a lower case "t."
What is Sciento-Paganism?
"A religion, old or new, that stressed the magnificence of the Universe as revealed by modern science might be able to draw forth reserves of reverence and awe hardly tapped by the conventional faiths. Sooner or later, such a religion will emerge." -- Carl Sagan
Sciento-Paganism is the best descriptor I can conjure for one of the primary modes by which I find inspiration, revelry, reverence & to some degree, connection to divinity. Being a Sciento-Pagan means embracing scientific thought & discovery in concert with my personal spiritual exploration. It means finding myself awestruck by the sheer awesomeness of all things -- from vast to minute. It means that the deeper my understanding of all things -- how they work & interrelate -- the greater my admiration & reverence. It means asking questions in pursuit of deeper questions. Sciento-Paganism is a process which is ongoing, evolving & eternally uncertain. The goal is to deepen & understand relationships -- to fully appreciate our place in the Great Web -- & celebrate them.
Anyone can be "Sciento;" Kemetics, Druids, Wiccans, ecclectics, etc. In fact, you don't have to be Pagan-- it just happens that I am, so that is my personal angle. Being Sciento just means that pursuing, exploring & understanding our world from a scientific point of view compliments & enhances spiritual work. For me, this is the perfect companion to my inherent animism. Together, they reconcile the two halves of my entire life experience; one half being academic & overly cerebral, the other being very intuitive & otherworldly. Science & Spirit: they need not be mutually exclusive.
My process is one of unfoldment. Therefore, the best way to express this concept will be gradual. The list below will remain a record of entries specific to this idea & its development:
