Why has no one ever raved to me about this place?
There are no words, so I'm doing it in pictures, all conveniently borrowed from Wikimedia Commons because it will save me all the linking & labeling hassles... just keep in mind that there are infinitely more appealing photos out there, but these are free & easy & I can use ALOT.
Michigan. Mmmm...
The fungi part of this project was easy this time. Jellies. Perfectly plan-worthy, eye-catching, colorful & diverse -- much like this beautiful land I have never seen but find myself longing for. Jellies are widespread in this moist, lake-filled domain, so they are naturals for this working. Instead of prattling on about them though, I'll keep to the photo-oriented format:

Cute button-like (name unknown) jelly. |
Lovely lavendar (name unknown) jelly. |
Witch's Butter. |
Vibrant red (name unknown) jelly. |
False Coral Jelly (I think.) |
Yellow (name unknown) jelly. |
What I was not aware of when I began my outline for this was that it was 11/11/11 (& darned near 11 am too!). I was soon to learn that this date has significance for people who subscribe to certain theological viewpoints that might be a wee bit preoccupied with topics like evil, sin & that sort of thing. Apparently, 10 & 12 are the perfect numbers, while 11 is most decidedly not. This makes 11 (by default, I guess) the number of sinners. Where all the other numbers went, I don't know. If you don't believe me, you can go ask MSNBC.
Not being numerically-minded, the date (& its significance) might have completely passed me by if it were not for certain friends who pointed out that 11/11/11 was also the day that a particularly overzealous & insular religious group had a stadium-sized prejudice pep rally planned for the city of Detroit. Apparently, Detroit is just one big cesspool of demoniac activity. Cesspool enough for the organizers of this prayer party to travel there to perform a ritual called "divorcing Baal," which supposedly drives out "the devil." Airfare is so expensive these days. They could really save a bundle if they just looked in the mirror, given what they seek they just drag about with them. Is it any wonder they see demons everywhere?
But wait! There's more! I had forgotten that our favourite prayer campaigners also had something special planned for 11/11/11 & those guys, they do not disappoint. 11/11/11 was scheduled to be their prayer storm on the "District of Christ." Aw, fair reader, did you miss that part? That's right, the theocracy team par excellence saved this special day to perform their grand “Releasing (of) the light and sound of eternal worship over the District of Christ.” The goal of this special prayer-storm (read: very, very, naughty, self-serving magick) was to influence our nations leaders to "function on a different playing field" (read: theirs). Really, really, not ok.
I am feeling an incredible urge to share something!
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”Wait. What was that?
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”Oh, yeah. That.
The prayer siege in & of itself is not really the problem. The problem is that its objective is to establish a theocratic state. Their view of freedom of religion (including freedom from religion -- for those of you who abstain) is that your religious freedom is important & must be defended, as long as you are practicing right along with them. You are perfectly free to worship as they see fit. Go right ahead, but don't you dare try anything different.
Whew. /rant off
The jellies sure have their work cut our for them cleaning up. Let's give them a little pep-rally of their own. I have adapted Starhawk's Kore Chant a wee bit for this occasion. (Original words taken from The Spiral Dance.)
Everything assailed is at peace again
in a new form, in a new way
Everything hurt is healed again
in a new time, in a new day.
in a new form, in a new way
Everything hurt is healed again
in a new time, in a new day.
May their mycelia make mindful, mending magick for Michigan. So mote it be.
