Pray to the Moon when She is round,
Luck with you will then abound,
What you seek for shall be found
On the sea or solid ground.

What He Said. (About Magic.)

"The experiences of youth are more relevant, more supportive of the Magic that We share today than Ancient Belief, Popular Occult Fantasy, or Fragmentary Post pagan Secularists and Social Media." -- Bryan Perrin

Yes! Keep speaking our truth my brother.

Animist Blog Carnival: Place Magic

The Animist Blog Carnival (ABC) is moving & shaking once again & this month it is really chock full of global goodies!

On this side of the planet, Moma has been up to her armpits in book submission writing, magickal workings, group ceremony-ing, Esbat offerings, flying ointment blessings, seed planting, talisman making, Dr. Seuss reading, snow cursing, snark exchanging, garbage picking, greenhouse prepping, belly dancing, sigil drawing, mental health-fixing, potty training...

SO... Moma took the short bus to the carnival this month & my recycled submission can be visited here: The Magic is Here & Now.

Our gracious hostess for this month is none other than Ringleader Heather Awen -- visit her post below & peruse the diversity of animist voices in this month's ABC magazine:

Unfolding Moon: Black & White Magic.

Moon Magic.
Moon Magic.

Remember.

Remember waiting for Moonrise in the East parking lot of the stadium megachurch. Strange juxtapositions. She takes Her sweet time & we listen to a radio discussion about Scientology. Such strange juxtapositions. When She peeks over the mountain's hard edge, we sing. Four humans steaming up a station wagon in freezing temperatures, all for the Love of the Moon...

Remember planning & sketching & baking. Always baking. Remember that piping icing is not Moma's forte... Moonsickness is heart beating so strong there is no steady hand for painting slick, glistening, sugar sigils. For the Moon this night? Black Magic Cake layered with Hubby's homemade four berry preserves all wrapped up in a blanket of white chocolate ganache. Give the Lady some of our own Strawberry Liqueur & we have offered a most worthy, head-spinning sweetness. It tastes like Love.

Remember lying on the bed late in the evening. There, under the window my baby Changeling & I watch the Moon & Her tricks of Light & Dark. He points tiny fingers & says, "Moon? Moon!" She casts Her image through the glass & it is captured there. Her body shines so brightly that Her reflection is clearer than Her actual being. How fitting, really, for such an enigmatic, luminous creature. Wandering the crazy lines of contrast, She inspires us to do the same.

The Magic is Here & Now.

The Moustached Tree Spirit

Today is a "High Day" but yesterday was Magic.

Walking in places where two (or three, or four) worlds meet, opening ourselves to all that which surrounds us, we found Magic.

Birch & Devil's Club forest Piptoporus betulinus
Brushing along the Birch skins under the foreboding Devil's Club, we found the beautiful ones.

Magic is big,

Everything I need. All of it, Magic.

& Magic is small.

Magic is in the symbols we encounter

& in the symbols we create.

When we seek, we find gifts of Magic anywhere, everywhere.

Magic: Amanita muscaria, the Fly Agaric.
Magic is here.
Magic is now.
Magic is within & without.
Magic is above & below.
Magic is every single day.
Magic beckons us at every turn.
We are all creatures of this Magic Earth.
Magic is our Native Tongue. It need not be complicated.

We find Magic when we allow its approach, when we make ourselves available.

  • We need not escape into fantasy, looking elsewhere, beyond ourselves, beyond this magnificent Place to find Magic. It is here, now.
  • We need not spend our lives yearning for transcendence, dismissing the wonder of this Place in the hopes of something we imagine is superior. This Earth is sublime. It is Magic. It is here, now.
  • We need not wait for the gods to bestow Magic upon us, barking at their heels for gnosis & believing we cannot achieve this for ourselves. We are Magic. We are here, now.
  • We need not wait for the "special" days, times, hours to create, work, share Magic together. The Magic is right now, right here.
  • Magic has its own rules. Listen & believe in no others.

Go find, capture, make, discover, conjure, harness, seek, embrace, share Magic... here, now...

    A leafy mushroom message.

& may it be a blessed Day for all.

The Little Book of BIG MAGIC (Comfort For the Files)

I waited many days for some news. Today it came.

It turned out to be kind of bad -- none of it was good, or quite what I expected.

Once again, no one is special.

So, before I drag out my Anatomical Supply Catalogue & start working out some medical magick, I am going to fret, grapple, wring my hands, ask existential questions (with much futility) & feel sorry for myself.

Then I will lay back & read The Little Book of BIG MAGIC (vol. 2) by Luke. In all likelihood, I will read it several times tonight.

Hand-written, illustrated & yellow thread-bound sometime in the 1990's by my beloved friend (Of Yore) Luke, this endearing text has survived residency in a minimum of five homes & three states. Sometimes I forget I have it, but I always seem to remember it when I need it. This is one of those times.

I only wish I had vol. 1. (Or maybe I just wish I had Luke.) But I suspect it is out there in the hands of a friend, also serving its purpose as a source of smiles, happiness & MAGIC.
